Overland Myanmar Adventure. The legendary “Golden Land” is still the Myanmar of today and certainly one of the most exotic countries in the world- a land of astounding beauty and charm. This 16 day trip give you the depth of the country, from the Golden Shwedagon Pagoda to scenic Inle Lake with one leg Intha rower, from Royal Mandalay to the Ancient Bagan. One would never leave Myanmar with a visit to the magnificent archaeological area of Bagan. The trip is also ideal for the photo hunters.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Yangon
Mingalabar! Upon arrival, a driver and tour guide of Myanmar Tour will welcome you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel in Yangon city center. The highlight for this evening is a dinner in Karaweik Palace overlooking to the Royal Lake and Shwedagon Tower. You will be served a dinner of fine Burmese food followed by an amazing cultural show.

Day 2: Yangon city tour
Having breakfast at your hotel, continue your guided city tour exploring Yangon and its highlights. Visit the famous Sule Pagoda, in the heart of Yangon, Chaukhtayi. Discover the most outstanding pagoda in Yangon, Shwedagon Pagoda. This golden pagoda is really a must see while you are in Myanmar. Finally, finish up your day by enjoying shopping time at Scott Market (closed on Monday & some holidays).

Day 3: Yangon – Kyaikhtiyo
After breakfast in the hotel, we leave Yangon to enjoy a scenic journey to Kyaiktiyo, 190km east. One of Myanmar’s great pilgrimage sites is the Golden Rock at Kyaiktiyo, a huge boulder covered by gold leaf and delicately balanced on the edge of a cliff. The pagoda at the Golden Rock is said to hold a hair of the Buddha. Late morning, arrive at Kyaikhtiyo base camp and transfer to the transit junction with one of the small open trucks in a one-hour ride. After lunch, start an easy walk up to the Golden Rock and enjoy sunset from this unforgettable site.

Day 4: Kyaikhtiyo – Taungoo
After breakfast, return to the base-camp by open truck and head in the direction to Taungoo for 220km (Approx 4 hours). Taungoo is the capital of second Myanmar dynasty of 15th century however little evidence is what left to be seen.

Day 5: Taungoo – Kalaw
Breakfast at hotel and drive to Kalaw <approx 8 hour> through the mainland observing the dry zone of Myanmar as well as twisting and turning hilly drive through Shan plateau. Kalaw is former British hills station town, cool, spring-like weather, pine forests, tea plantations and colorfully clad hill tribes make this town to a natural magnet.

Day 6: Kalaw – Pindaya – Inle Lake
After breakfast, leave Kalaw via coach, for Pindaya. We take a nice drive through the picturesque countryside of the Shan State. Visit Pindaya’s limestone cave with its maze of chambers displaying more than 8,000 Buddha statues. We will also see local handicraft workshops producing Shan paper made from mulberry bark and traditional umbrellas made from the same paper that are used by monks all around the country. Transfer to Nyaung Shwe Jetty and take the boat to your resort for check in.

Day 7: Inle Lake Discovery
Inle Lake, the second largest lake in Myanmar, is located 900 meters above sea level and is home to the Intha people, known for their unique one leg rowing technique.
Upon arrival, board a motorboat for a sightseeing tour to Phaungdawoo Pagoda, famed for its richly gilded five small Buddha images and is believed to be the holiest in Inle Lake. Our next visit is Ngaphechaung Monastery. As you travel further toward Nam Pan village, cotton, lotus weaving factories and cigar making houses will impress you with a sense of traditional Intha life.

Day 8: Inle Lake – Indein – Mandalay
This morning, you will visit the 5-Day Market that is held in different villages surrounding the lake. This is definitely a fascinating place to enjoy the scene of local tribes in their colorful clothes and exotic market atmosphere.
After lunch, the boat will take you to a beautiful temple of Indein, located on the hill overlooking the lake. It will be definitely relaxing to walk along the corridor and enjoy the giant columns that have been left to the nature for centuries. Take the late afternoon flight to Mandalay.

Day 9: Mandalay – Sagaing – Amarapura
Known as the hub of Buddhism in Myanmar, Mandalay is a realm of stupas, monks and monastery. The most fascinating visit will be the time to behold the monks doing their worship and having meals.
We will transfer from the city to Sagaing Hill, discover the monk education, visit Budda Cave, Uminthonze Pagoda and Sunooponnyashin Pagoda. Behold the panoramic view of Mandalay.
After that, come to Amarapura. Being famous for Mahagandaryone Monastery Amarapura is the best place to experience the monk life in Mandalay. Walk over Ubein Wooden Bridge, the longest teakwood of its type to Mahamuni Image – a bronze Buddha image castled during the lifetime of Buddha himself.

Day 10: Mandalay – Mingun – Mandalay Hill
Driver to Mandalay pier, embarking on a private boat upstream to visit Mingun, famed for its huge and incomplete Pahtodawgyi Pagoda and Mingun Bell the 90 tons ringing bell. Continue visiting Mya Thein Dan Zedi pagoda
In the afternoon, visit Mandalay Palace, Shwenandaw Monastery – noted for its exquisite wood carvings, gold leaf beating workshop, Kuthodaw Pagoda – known as the world biggest book and finish the tour by visiting Mandalay Hill to watch the sun-set and the panoramic view of the city.

Day 11: Mandalay – Day boat to Bagan
Early in the morning, our car will transfer you to the jetty for the daily boat along Irrawaddy Rive from Mandalay to Bagan. This is just a basic, standard boat only. Available soft seating (not sleeper), lunch included with few options of noddle, fried rice only. This journey take round 10-11 hours depends on water level. You just seat on boat and overview from there, no stop anywhere.
Arrive Bagan in the late afternoon. Get picked up from the jetty and transfer to the hotel in Bagan for check in.
Bagan is Myanmar’s archaeological wonderland, where over 3,000 ancient temples blossom from the countryside. Stay at leisure.

Day 12: Bagan sightseeing
Start your tour with a trip to the bustling Nyang U Market in Old Bagan then explore the beautiful, gold leaf Shwezigon Pagoda and learn about Burmese Buddhist traditions. We continue our tour with a visit to Ananda Temple, stopping along the way on the Bagan plains to admire some of the surrounding temples. In the afternoon, take a tour of a local lacquer ware workshop and learn how this traditional piece of art is made. The highlight of today is the panoramic sunset view from the second highest pagoda of Bagan, the ShweSandaw Pagoda.

Day 13: Bagan – Mt. Popa
Leaving the Bagan temples behind, we begin the drive to Mt Popa. Join the pilgrims as they ascend Mt. Popa and admire the crazy statues that line the walkway, along with the monkeys that live on the mountain. Once at the peak, guests can relax and bask in the glorious views of Bagan.

Day 14: Bagan – Drive to Pyay
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel then travel by car to Pyay about 350km – 6 hours. Places of interest includes: the Shwe Myet Hman Pagoda (the Buddha Image with a pair of golden spectacles) at Shwe Daung; the Shwe Sandaw Pagoda in Pyay and near Hmawza is the Thayaykhittaya (10 km out of Pyay), the scattered ruins of ancient Pyu capital, roughly circular in form (area 14 sq km) enclosed and fortified with a city wall. Near the center are the rectangular foundations of the palace walls. Outside the city walls are four pagodas (Baw Baw Gyi; Phaya Gyi; Phaya Ma and Be Be Gyi which were built around 5th century A.D.).

Day 15: Pyay – Drive to Yangon
After breakfast, take a 6-hour trip to Yangon after discover the local life at busy river port. Check in your hotel in Yangon. Stay at leisure.

After breakfast, you are free until your departure time. Our driver will take you to Yangon International Airport for your flight home.
